CHORIZO DATA LAYER 1: Multi-source evidence collection, analysis and interpretation

Data layer 1 serves as a CHORIZO master list of ongoing and past initiatives aimed at preventing or reducing food loss and waste (FLW) across various countries in the European Union and the United Kingdom.

These actions target different stages of the food supply chain, including:

  • Primary Production: Activities related to the initial growing, rearing, or harvesting of food.

  • Processing and Manufacturing (Including Valorization): The first stages of food processing and manufacturing post-harvest, before distribution.

  • Transportation: The logistics and transportation of food through the supply chain.

  • Retail: Storage and handling of food at points of sale or distribution to consumers, such as supermarkets, shops, and wholesale outlets.

  • Redistribution: Efforts to redistribute surplus food that is fit for human consumption.

  • Food Services: Operations within catering, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and other similar food service settings.

  • Households: Food consumption at the household level or small residential facilities.

  • General Awareness-Raising: Campaigns and initiatives to increase public awareness of FLW through forums, platforms, and information exchanges.

  • Whole Supply Chain: Initiatives that address FLW at all stages of the supply chain.

The actions have been assessed for relevance to highlight impactful practices in tackling FLW. The assessment can be found in Data Layer 3 (CHORIZO DATA LAYER 3: Food Loss and Waste Insighter - Organisations - Chorizo Project)
